20250214 Gratitude Diary

 

1. 아빠로부터 톡이 왔다. 내가 살아온 스토리가 너무 궁금하다는 아빠의 메세지가 감동이었다. 특히 지난 과거(2024년 9월~12월)와 지금까지 현 상황의 스토리를 적어서 메일로 전달해달라는 부탁하는 아빠가 웃겼다. ㅋㅋㅋ 너무 귀여워서 그만, 퇴근 후 방금 전까지 스토리를 적다보니 이제서야 글을 마쳤다. 거의 일기를 써서 보내는 느낌이 들었는데- 나를 너무너무 사랑한다는게 느껴져서 아빠에게 진심으로 감사합니다. 

1. I just got a message from my dad, and it really hit me right in the feels. He said he was so curious about the story of my life. He specifically wanted me to write about the past few months (from September to December 2024) and my current situation, then send it to him by email. It was so sweet, I couldn't help but laugh. 😂 I ended up spending my whole evening writing it, and just finished now. It honestly felt like I was writing in a diary. I can really feel the love he has for me, and it means the world. Thank you so much, Dad—you really put a smile on my face! ❤️

 

2. 엄마는 내 인스타 스토리를 매일 보시고, 전화통화를 하시기에 내 일상을 누구보다 잘 알고 계신다. 그리고 하늘에 계신 할머니도 아시겠지. 내가 어떻게 살아왔고, 어떻게 살아가고 있는지 위에서 지켜보고 계시는 것만으로도 사랑을 느낄수 있어서 감사합니다💕.

2. My mom checks my Instagram stories every day and calls me regularly, so she knows more about my daily life than anyone else. And my grandmother, who’s watching from above, must know too. Just knowing they’re keeping an eye on me and seeing how I’ve lived and how I’m living now really warms my heart. I’m super grateful for the love they’re sending my way. 💕 Feeling blessed, fr.

 

3. 동료분들께 정말 아무것도 아니지만, 발렌타인데이를 맞아 작디 작은 초콜릿을 선물했다. 그런데도 좋아해주시고 어떤 분은 저를 안아주셔서 감사합니다.

3. It may have been something small, but to celebrate Valentine’s Day, I gave my coworkers a tiny tiny chocolate gift. Still, they appreciated it, and one person even gave me a hug. I’m so grateful for their kindness.

 

4. 치즈갈비찜 비주얼에 감탄, 맛에 감탄했다. 회사와 셰프님께 감사합니다.

4. I was blown away by the look of the cheese galbi jjim, and even more by how delicious it tasted. A big thank you to the company and the chef.

 

5. 발렌타인 데이를 기념해 어여쁜 디저트를 만드셨던 동료분께서 깜찍한 마카롱을 선물해주셨다. 꺄 감사합니다.

5. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, a colleague who made beautiful desserts gifted me the cutest macarons. Eeee, thank you so much! 

 

6. RBC를 메인은행으로 결정하려 했으나, CIBC랑 고민이 된다. 계좌마다, 카드마다 각종혜택들이 달라서 비교하고 또 비교하다가 결국 CIBC로 결정을 내렸다. 생각해보니 simplii가 CIBC계열사라서 많은 서비스가 서로 연동이 될 뿐만 아니라 바로 회사 앞이 CIBC라서 RBC보다 훨씬 가깝다. 특히 캐나다에서 settle down을 할 경우, 추후 대출을 고려한다면(살면서 대출을 한번도 해본 적 없는 나란 인간..) CIBC가 훨씬 유리하기 때문이다. 게다가 캐나다는 신용 사회라 대출을 이용하지 않으면 신용 점수를 쌓는 데 어려움이 있다고 한다. 신용 점수는 금융 생활에서 중요한 역할을 하기 때문에, 지금이라도 신용카드를 개설하여(살면서 신용카드조차 오픈해본 적 없는 나란 인간..) 적은 금액을 주기적으로 사용하고, 매월 전액을 결제하는 습관을 들여야겠다는 생각이 들었다. 꾸준히 신용 기록을 쌓으면, 향후 주택 구입과 같은 대출을 받을 때 유리한 조건을 얻을 수 있으니까:) 신용카드를 통한 신용 점수 관리는 단기적인 이익뿐만 아니라 장기적으로 금융적 안정성을 높이는 데 중요한 역할을 할 거라는 작은 깨달음을 얻어서 감사합니다.

6. I was initially set on making RBC my main bank, but I’ve been torn between that and CIBC. After comparing the benefits of each account and card, I finally decided to go with CIBC. It turns out that Simplii is a subsidiary of CIBC, so many services are integrated, and the fact that CIBC is right in front of my office makes it much more convenient than RBC. Particularly, if I plan to settle down in Canada in the future and eventually consider a mortgage (since I’ve never taken out a loan before in my whole life), CIBC seems like the better option. Additionally, since Canada is a credit-based society, I learned that without using credit, it’s harder to build a good credit score. A strong credit score plays a significant role in financial life, so I realized I should open a credit card(I have never even opened a credit card in my whole life...btw), use it regularly for small purchases, and pay off the balance in full each month. By steadily building my credit history, I’ll be in a better position to secure favorable loan terms when it’s time to buy my own home. :) I’ve gained a small but valuable realization that managing my credit score through a credit card not only brings short-term benefits but will also contribute to long-term financial stability. I’m really grateful for that insight.

 

7. 다음 주 월요일은 Family Day라 공휴일인데- 우리 회사는 공휴일이 유급 휴일이다. (대부분의 캐나다 BC주 회사들이 그렇겠지..?) 아마 나는 열심히 코딩을 하고 외국어공부를 하지 않을까 싶다. 공부가 취미라서 감사합니다.

7. Next Monday is Family Day, a public holiday, and our company offers paid holidays for public holidays. (I guess most companies in BC, Canada would do the same?) I'll probably spend the day coding and learning foreign languages. Since studying is my thing, I'm grateful for the chance to dive into it.
